What you should know about watch winders?

Now, where does the debate about clockwork in watches come into play? The fairly common arguments for or against winders have very different sides.

First of all, is a watch winder necessary?

If you've mastered the art of manually winding a watch, you may be wondering why you should buy a watch winder. After all, winding a watch is as simple as two fingers!

However, the answer is not as simple as it seems. While manual winding is fine for some with more time or patience (or both!), it won't cut it for someone who wants to wear more than one watch and doesn't have the time.

There are many reasons why you might need a wire winder:

  • There are many automatic watches, and even only two or three watches that need to be wound every day.
  • Watches with advanced functions such as date display, annual or perpetual calendar, moon phase complications
  • Expensive to own , and unwilling to take any risks for their well-being.
  • Because it's easier to wind up with a watch (who doesn't like a little convenience?)

So what are the benefits of having a watch winder?

There are many benefits to buying a self-winding machine, such as:

1.Extend the life of the watch.

A well-designed watch can last for years as long as it remains wound. These types of watches also have to be serviced every few years, but maintenance alone will not prevent the gradual deterioration of watch gears. However, as long as your watch is continuously running (i.e. on your wrist or in constant movement in a self-winding), it will automatically lubricate, which helps prevent wear and tear on the watch gears. This, in turn, ensures that your watch is in top condition and doesn't get emaciated in a beautiful but ultimately useless display case.

2.You will save money in the long run.

When you put your luxury watch in a self-winder, you don't need to send your watch in for service as often. Self-lubricating ensures smooth and efficient operation of the gears, you only need to dust the watch winder once in a while!

3.Protect your watch.

Self-winders are more than just a functional tool; they also provide a safe space to store your precious watch. Some watch winders even feature drawers with bolsters to ensure your watch doesn't get worn out or soiled unnecessarily. Each watch also has separate areas so they don't get too close to each other, further reducing the risk of damage!

Your watch will never be well protected or functional when it is safely stored in a self-winder.

What do I need to be aware of about watch winders?

It's easy to reduce a watch winder to a device that rotates your watch for you, but you do need to understand the different functions of a watch and a winder to get the most from it. One of the key features to look into further is the revolutions per day (TPD) and direction of rotation (clockwise/counterclockwise/both) and matching your watch and whether the winder offers full customization to suit your needs Experience. If you want to think about the security of your collectibles, you can also find winders with key locks, combination locks and even fingerprint locks.

Are watch winders harmful to your watch?

A good quality watch winding will not cause damage to your automatic watch. A watch winding movement keeps the watch's mainspring wound as if it were worn on the wrist. However, a poor or incompatible winder may not be safe for the watch due to the watch's magnetization, continuous engagement, and excessive wear on the slipping clutch.

The main function of the winder is to protect the mainspring from being overwound. Once the watch reaches its full power reserve, the mainspring releases any excess pressure. Think of it as a gas tank that can't take in any more gas once it's full. A quality winder is designed to perform simple tasks to maintain the status quo of the watch.

At the end of the day, we believe that the watch you own is meant to be worn. We don't recommend leaving any watches on the winder all day every day, just as we don't recommend leaving them in a safe without being taken out. Proper use of a watch winder has many benefits, as long as you are diligent about servicing and making sure each watch is in the correct position when placed on the winder.
