About Askania

ASKANIA is a German watch brand based in Berlin. In 1871, Carl Bamberg – the son of a horologist and a pupil of Carl Zeiss – established a factory in Berlin, producing pioneering precision instruments for seafaring, observatories, research, and expeditions. Thanks to a high level of innovation and reliable technology, ASKANIA became one of the most important German companies for aviation instruments.

Why Should you Manually Wind your Askania Watch?

The most important time to manually wind an Askania watch is when it has stopped. Different Askania watches have other power-reserve times. This means that if you put your Askania watch on a table, for example, and then do not wear it for a few days, it will stop.
A common misconception about what to do when an Askania watch has stopped is that you should shake it so that it gets energy again, however, this is one of the reasons why you should wind your Askania manually in the first place as you risk damaging it The movement may wear out faster when the watch is shaken violently.
If your watch has stopped, it may even shake a little before starting, but by manually winding your Askania, you can easily get it to restart.

Askania Manual Winding Steps

Winding a watch is a complex job, but for many watch lovers, it's part of the fun of interacting with a watch.

When you use the watch for the first time recommended to do this by hand with about 15 to 20 turns wind up clockwise. To wind the crown in Leave position 0. When worn, the watch is then wound up automatically.

Tip: If the stopwatch hand has moved, pull the crown in position 2 and press button A the number of times until the pointer is back at position 0. Press then put the crown back into the case.

If you cannot find your Askania watch model (or movement) in this watch, you can try to determine your Askania winding mode. You should choose the combined winding mode (CW+CCW) and minimum turns per day (TPD). Then put the watch in the watch winding case and check the accuracy of the time displayed by the watch after a few days. If you fall behind, you need to increase the number of TPDs by one level.

How to Adjust the Time of Askania Watch?

Applies to the Following Models:

TAIFUN-TAI-5683

To Set your Time Display:

Gently pull the crown out from position 0 to the stop (position 2), then turn the adjust Crown to set the exact time and push the crown back in the housing to position 0.

How to Set your Date Display:

For technical reasons, we recommend that you do not set the date quickly between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Pull Gently pull the crown out from position 0 to position 1 and then set the current one by turning the crown date. Finally, push the crown back into the Housing in position 0.

How to Use the Stop Function:

Pressing button A starts the stop time. The second is displayed with the stop-seconds hand in the middle and the minutes in the small display below the 12. If you press button A again, the stop time will be stopped. You can then read the elapsed time. With pressure on Button B returns the hands to the 0 positions.

Different styles of watches have slightly different adjustment methods. Different, it is best to refer to the manual of the corresponding watch, so as not to damage your beloved Askania watch.

Can I Always Wind my Askania Manually With the Crown?

It is fine to do it occasionally, but not too often – particularly, when your watch is equipped with a screw-down crown.
First, by winding with a crown, the gears and other parts of an automatic movement will wear out faster and the screw-down crown system will also quickly wear out as it is not designed to be used so frequently. A self-winding watch should be worn at least eight hours a day to maximise the power reserve so, rather than letting your automatic watch’s power reserve run down, invest in a simple automatic watch winder.
